Lightning has damaged the clock tower in the world heritage city of Galle a few months ago.
Several stones had been broken in the clock tower as a result, but officials concerned had not taken steps to repair the damage or to erect a lightning conductor.
Only a signboard by the Galle Heritage Foundation remains at the place.
One of the oldest clock towers in the country, this was opened in 1883.
Tourists and area residents call upon the authorities to erect a lightning conductor to prevent future damage, without confining their mission and objectives to words.
