W.D.J. Seneviratne, Chief Opposition Whip of the Sri Lanka Freedom party said that no final agreement has been reached between the SLFP and the UNP in relation to the distribution of ministerial power in the National Government.
He said that two rounds of discussions were held in order to decide on the composition of the National Government and its ministerial functioning.
He also said that his party strongly believes that the number of cabinet ministers must be limited to 45.
W.D.J. Seneviratne said that the SLFP has requested for a number of ministerial positions in the National Government, including the position of Minister of Health.
They have been unable to agree on the requests put forth during discussions.
He said that accordingly, the chairman of the SLFP gave President Maithripala Sirisena authority to arrive at a final decision regarding these matters.
