Albuquerque is hosting its International Balloon Fiesta, which has seen dozens of balloons of all shapes and sizes take to the skies.
Dozens of brightly colored hot air balloons took to to the sky Saturday (October 10) on the ninth and final day of the 2015 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico.
As many as 550 can take off from the 365 acre Balloon Fiesta Park within a two hour period on days of “Mass Ascensions”, a launch of all the participating balloons that takes places in two waves.
A combination of factors make the venue the perfect place for the fiesta: typically clear skies, cool mornings and wind patterns at various elevations that help keep the balloons aloft over the city.
The nine-day annual event, which began in 1972 with just 13 balloons, now attracts over hundred thousand spectators.
