The village of Mottuwarama, Puttalam was provided with electricity on Thursday, January 21, bringing new beginnings to those who live in the island.
The island is home to one-hundred (100) families and a school. However, the island was never supplied with electricity, causing severe inconveniences to the residents. That was until Thursday.
Electricity was provided to the tiny island via solar power by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, which comes under the Ministry of Power and Energy.
Solar cells and panels were presented, free-of-charge, to the 100 houses under the project to give light to every household in the country. The panels can also be mobilised to meet the needs of Mottuwarama residents.
