4000 Police officers deployed for security in view of May Day - Hiru News
Police will be implementing a special traffic plan and security plan in conjunction with the May Day rallies and processions held today.
According to the Police media spokesman’s office, 4100 police officers have been deployed for the security.
The May Day rally of the SLFP is scheduled to be held in Galle Samanala Grounds, while party members are to join the rally in three processions.
The May Day rally of the UNP will be held at Campbell grounds in Borella.
Democratic National Movement is scheduled to arrive in a procession to join the UNP rally.
The Joint Opposition has organized their May Day rally at Kirulapona Lalith Athulath-mudali grounds.
Meanwhile, JVP will hold their May Day rally at Colombo B.R.C. Grounds, while Frontline Socialist party has organized their May Day rally at the Bastian Place.
Measures have also been taken by the police to restrict parking in several roads from tonight, due to the May Day rallies and processions.
Accordingly parking will be restricted along Sangharaja Mawatha, Maligawatta Road, Jayantha Weerasekara Mawatha, Panchikawatta Road, Maradana Road, Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Udyana Mawatha.
Baseline Road will be closed from Dematagoda Junction to Borella Junction and Narahenpita Junction to High Level Road from 1.00 to 6.00pm.
High Level Road near Havelock Road and Dickman’s Road also expected to be closed between2.00-6.00pm.
Saranankara Road will be closed from 1.00pm to 4.00pm tomorrow while several other roads in the proximity of May Day rallies will also be closed for traffic.
A special traffic plan has been announced by the Police designating alternative routes for the buses, due to May Day processions and rallies.
Accordingly, buses plying along route number 138 Maharagama, Kottawa, Homagama and High Level, route 120, route 125 Horana, Kesbewa, Piliyandala and Ingiriya buses should use alternative roads.
In addition, buses plying route number 154 Kiribathgoda to Angulana, and route numbers 170 and 190 also should use alternative roads.
